Surel Mitchell lived with multiple sclerosis and lupus, so she built her home and studio in Garden City to accommodate the use of a wheelchair and to keep direct sunlight at bay while bringing in softer diffused light through large north-facing windows and skylights.

This universal design approach is one of the core values embraced by Surel’s Place in our day-to-day operations and long term planning.
