SUMMARY:Exhibit & Art Talk: A PLEA FOR TENDERNESS
DESCRIPTION:EXHIBIT & ART TALKA PLEA FOR TENDERNESSThursday\, October 29th | 7:00pm – 8:30pmfree \n\n\n\nIn this project Eli Craven aims to position the viewer as a collaborator or partner in the physical experience of the work. Viewers are invited to alter photographic compositions through a series of kinetic elements and reflective materials\, including sliding wood panels\, hinged doors\, and movable peepholes. The viewer must engage and activate the framing components to reveal the photographic image\, potentially provoking the desire to see what is hidden within. Participation is integral to this project\, with entire scenes rendered incomplete without the viewer’s touch and imagination filling the gaps and visualizing what lies beneath the surface of the photograph\, or behind the veil. \n\n\n\nAlthough the works exist within the canon of photography\, they are sculptural objects that utilize the photograph as part of their construction. Eli’s work started with an obsession for photography and its materials and that fixation remains at the core of his practice.

But upon closer inspection\, deeper questions and contradictions emerge: sweetness and toxicity\, desire and control\, innocence and complicity. The polished surfaces and playful presentation invite viewers into a familiar world before revealing the tensions that underpin it. \n\n\n\nSugar May’s work examines the intersection of femininity\, consumer culture\, and power dynamics through comics and conceptual mixed media assemblage/sculpture. Working with found objects\, cast resin\, and nostalgic imagery\, she transforms familiar symbols of domesticity and idealized womanhood into sculptural and narrative works that are simultaneously seductive and unsettling. \n\n\n\nDuring ticketed times\, the exhibition includes live performance by Sugar May and burlesque performers curated by Femme von Follies. The red bathroom is expanding into a “red light district” with an entrance to a peep show. You can purchase tokens that open a window for a one-minute private viewing experience of talented burlesque performers which rotates throughout the night. Or\, you can use a token for a piece of cake. Either way- it’s a treat.  \n\n\n\nSugar May will be in all performances. \n\n\n\nThe rotating “Peep Show” cast includes: \n\n\n\nMuff JonesJaye MirageKate E GagaButterscotch BummLucy La PecheSelma SapphireMariposa DevineStella SinVera Holiday \n\n\n\nTicket is your arrival time. The exhibition will be open until 10pm. Tokens\, merchandise\, and art available for purchase at the event as well.  \n\n\n\nThis is an 18+ event.
