Artist Miguel Almieda was one of four artists who created this mural wall for the Placemaking Fund. Each segment of this mural creates a different backdrop for young and developing photographers to use for free with online advice from the GCPF co-founders and professional photographers at Visionkit Studios.

Miguel Almieda “navigates activism, success in mostly white field,” the state’s largest newspaper said about the artist behind two of the earliest murals painted through Surel’s Place’s placemaking collaboration with local business, residents and artists.

“I want to represent who I am,” Almeida told the paper. “And show kids who grew up like me, that there are people out there you can relate to. At the end of the day, representation inspires. If you don’t see yourself being represented in the arts where you live you might not want to pursue it.”
