Artist Miguel Almieda was one of four artists who created this mural wall for the Placemaking Fund. Each segment of this mural creates a different backdrop for young and developing photographers to use for free with online advice from the GCPF co-founders and professional photographers at Visionkit Studios.

Garden City Placemaking Fund Leaders and Artist to Speak at Boise State

The Boise State University School of the Arts will host a Public Art Panel at 9:30 a.m. February 8 featuring some of the Garden City business owners who have helped launch the Garden City Placemaking Fund, a collaboration between Surel’s Place, neighboring businesses and residents that aims to create new opportunities for local, emerging and BIPOC artists and spark conversations about our community’s shared future.

Moderated by former Surel’s Place board member Kirsten Furlong, panelists include Miguel Almeida, who has painted two Garden City murals, Boise Public Art Program Manager Stephanie Johnson, Boise State art collection curator Fonda Portales, and Visionkit photo studio owners and GCPF leaders Aaron Rodriguez, and Matthew Wordell

Together they will discuss the public art process, comment on common roadblocks, and explore possible opportunities. Light refreshments will be provided.
