Our STUDIO AIR (Artist-in-Residence) program is another way we serve local artists who may not want a full, live-in residency, but who need a concentrated block of time and space to work on a proposed project. These residencies are shorter, often between 7 and 12 days, and they culminate with an art event that features the artist’s work, be it an exhibition, reading, or performance.

January 2nd – 29th, 2024 | 7 – 12 days
Deadline: Wednesday, Nov 8th

We are offering these studio residencies from 7-12 days to artists 21-and-older of multiple genres in the Treasure Valley. Selected artists will receive a minimum of a $100 honorarium, access to the house, and support from our staff. We are particularly interested in providing these residencies to artists who would benefit from the time and space at Surel’s Place. Studio residencies will be scheduled between January 2nd and 29th.

All future Studio AIR Calls to Artists will be posted on this page, on our social media accounts, and in our e-newsletter.

“To be honest, I have been quite down these last several months with Covid-19, world events, and just all my work and events being canceled or postponed that I have been working towards. I have been incredibly stuck and uninspired in regards to my creativity and artistic practice. I was really worried I would have a hard time feeling motivated to work during my time at Surel’s Place. But being here actually inspired me and gave me energy… overall I found myself feeling inspired and just wanting to work – which I haven’t felt in months!”

Hannah Rodabaugh  |  Poetry  |  August 2020
“It surpassed my expectations in regards to the space, the home, the yard, the surroundings, and the items available to use. I was truly blown away by the beauty of the space, the size and tools available to create, and the little details throughout the house.”

Susan Bruns Rowe  |  Memoir  |  November 2020
“I felt honored by the care and thought that went into my public reading on the Surel’s Place Facebook Live event.”

Rachael Mayer  |  Fiber  |  December 2020“Surel’s Place holds so much creative energy. It’s purpose and its history are impressive. Knowing that so many other creatives had made work there before galvanized me.”
