Biography
Daren Kendall’s work explores how art animates and gives form to something collectively sensed, experienced, or unexpressed within. Inspired by the structures and rhythms found in music, dance, and architecture, he creates site-responsive installations that reimagine the dynamic conversation between sculpture and its environment. Intended to amplify the movements and patterns that emerge over time, he works to create a space to collaborate and explore the poetics of daily life, on site.
Kendall is the Assistant Professor of Art at the College of Wooster in the Department of Art & Art History. He has an MFA from Cornell University in sculpture and interdisciplinary art.
During his residency, Kendall led, Finding Flow: An Improvisation Workshop. The collaborative workshop introduced improvisational exercises through sound and movement designed to incorporate deep listening and awareness across creative disciplines. His exhibition Across the Threshold transformed and was inspired by the architectural space of Surel’s Place. With the support of Boise State University ceramics professor Caroline Earley, he 3D printed replicas of a statue from Surel’s collection.
