How are we all collectively linked through the language of music?
Join us at Surel’s Place for a unique, fluid, and deeply resonant performance that answers this question explored by Artist-in-Residence Kara Yannon. Grounded in modal harmony and vocal layering, this event is the culmination of a creative residency dedicated to exploring how we can create together using what is already present in our community.
This performance is not set in stone—it is directly shaped, informed, and breathed into life by the collective voices and reflections gathered during the residency. It is a true celebration of accessibility, listening, and shared authorship.
✨ What You Will Experience
- Residency Original Compositions: Hear live performances of original musical works composed during the residency, directly inspired by community sound baths in different modes.
- Immersive Vocal Looping: Experience live vocal looping that builds and layers intricate harmonies in real time, recreating deep, enveloping tonal environments.
- Voices of the Community: Listen to recorded fragments from our community workshops (shared with participant permission), weaving the authentic sounds of our community into the music.
- Projected Visual Documentation: Follow the artistic arc of the residency (Immersion → Language → Pattern → Composition) through projected documentation of notation sketches, written phrases, recurring thematic words, and reflections gathered during the sessions.
To bring the process full circle, the evening may include a brief live immersion moment, inviting you, the audience, directly into the communal music-making process before the final performance concludes.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the City of Boise’s Department of Arts & History.
