Step into the world of Bad Woman, an exhibition and performance experience by artist Sugar May. The exhibition feels immediately cozy, and familiar – a step into the dreamy past. But upon closer inspection, deeper questions and contradictions emerge: sweetness and toxicity, desire and control, innocence and complicity. The polished surfaces and playful presentation invite viewers into a familiar world before revealing the tensions that underpin it.

Sugar May’s work examines the intersection of femininity, consumer culture, and power dynamics through comics and conceptual mixed media assemblage/sculpture. Working with found objects, cast resin, and nostalgic imagery, she transforms familiar symbols of domesticity and idealized womanhood into sculptural and narrative works that are simultaneously seductive and unsettling.

During ticketed times, the exhibition includes live performance by Sugar May and burlesque performers curated by Femme von Follies. The red bathroom is expanding into a “red light district” with an entrance to a peep show. You can purchase tokens that open a window for a one-minute private viewing experience of talented burlesque performers which rotates throughout the night. Or, you can use a token for a piece of cake. Either way- it’s a treat. 

Sugar May will be in all performances.

Ticket is your arrival time. The exhibition will be open until 10pm. Tokens, merchandise, and art available for purchase at the event as well.
