GIVE

It’s that beautiful time of year again for the state-wide celebration of nonprofits, Idaho Gives. Over the course of 4 days, you can support organizations including Surel’s Place, and this year we have a few new exciting ways to participate.

  • The first 4 donors to contribute $750 or more will be the recipients of an original Surel artwork – each piece is framed from individual elements of Surel’s 999 Imperfect Circles (2008/2009.) For reference, Surel created 999 Imperfect Circles as a ten-panel 5′ x 10′ installation. At the time, Surel said that the circles are metaphors for people – their imperfections and frailty and their relationships to each other. These individual elements derived from the larger installation maintain that glowing spirit of individuality and highlight the relationships between donors like you and Surel’s Place during this Giving Tuesday. Each piece is professionally framed (8.5″ x 8.5″) with archival quality by Van Dyck Frame Design and come with an official certificate of authenticity. The Mitchell family has graciously made available these individual pieces.
  • LUSK DISTRICT BFF BLOCK PARTY
    Tuesday, April 30th
    4:00pm – 8:00pm

1026 S La Pointe Street in Boise
Come find Surel’s Place in the Lusk District for a block party hosted by Lost Grove Brewing and the Lusk District Neighborhood Association. You will find local nonprofits set up with fun, engaging, and interactive booths providing a family-friendly, party atmosphere to celebrate the incredible work organizations are doing for our community. Come enjoy the collective camaraderie as there will be raffle items donated by district businesses, and those who make a donation get a raffle ticket. Lost Grove Brewing will be donating beer sales from the satellite locations and from their patio bar to the nonprofits as part of a “BFF Block Party Pool” that will be split evenly between all the participating nonprofits. Celebrate Idaho Gives with us in true block party style!

  • NONPROFIT MARKETPLACE
    Thursday, May 2nd

    4:00pm – 8:00pm
3200 W. Chinden Blvd. in Garden City
Visit us at the Nonprofit Marketplace at Split Rail Winery. $8 glasses of wine will be available for donors. There will be live music from Radio Boise and a food truck by Kain na Tayo.

  • Any contribution made during Idaho Gives, whether large or small, goes a long way towards the vitality of Surel’s Place and our programming, so we sincerely appreciate any gift you are able to make. Please consider giving to Surel’s Place this Idaho Gives, which opens at midnight on Monday, April 29th.

WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION DO?

GROW OUR GARDEN

Did you know that Surel’s Place is hosting 8 upcoming performances of Macbeth performed by The Boise Bard Players in our back yard between May 9th and May 19th? Did you also know that Surel’s Place requires very necessary tree and shrub pruning to keep our garden healthy and performance-worthy? With your direct support this Giving Tuesday, our gardening costs, currently at $1,930, will be “trimmed” down.

UPLIFT ARTISTIC VOICES WITH SUREL’S PLACE

Our month-long artist residencies are life-changing, career-making experiences.
We support artists — and with your help during Idaho Gives, Surel’s Place will be directly supporting these upcoming artists-in-residence:

KIT JULIANTO  |  Visual (Nevada)
June 14 – July 11th, 2024
This June, Surel’s Place is pleased to host our first ever Indigenous Artist Residency in partnership with the Indigenous Idaho Alliance. Artist and musician Kit Julianto, Yooti, is an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation and a descendent of the Navajo nation.

DAREN KENDALL  |  Sculpture (Ohio)
July 15 – August 11, 2024
With an interest in collaboration as a key aspect to their studio practice, Daren Kendall plans to create a sculptural framework and event reflecting architecture, the environment, and cross-disciplinary relationships. Having previously visited Boise/Garden City, Daren is excited to take a deeper part in community outreach and conversation.

ROBINSON MORENO  |  Video (Caracas, Venezuela)
August 14 – September 17, 2024
During his residency, Venezuelan-Colombian artist Robinson Moreno will be working on his first short film called Galaxia. In addition to moving images, Robinson uses street art and engraving as tools for social reflection and collective transformation.

LAURIE SHAPIRO  |  Visual (New York/California)
September 19 – October 16, 2024
Laurie Shapiro will be utilizing a technique she developed that compensates for her condition of progressive deafness through the use of vibrant and captivating visuals. Laurie uses a variety of mixed media including painting, screenprinting, sewing, and sculpture.

OTHER WAYS YOUR DONATION WILL SUPPORT US

In addition to our traditional month-long artist residencies, our subsidized year-long studio residencies give Idaho artists an accessible and affordable opportunity to invest in their own creative futures — and ensure that our community stays vibrant and energized by new artistic voices.

And our events such as the First Friday Art and Studio Stroll bring the community and the community’s artists together to forge new relationships, new insights into how we can face our shared challenges, and, quite frankly, have a lot of fun together!

Whether it’s through public workshops, performances, readings, exhibitions, installations, flash shows, or concerts, Surel’s Place is busy working to provide time and space for artists and to share these experiences with the community.
